About the Client:
The client is a desktop-based practice management provider in the healthcare industry seeking to modernize its platform with cloud-ready and mobile-accessible capabilities without disrupting its existing user base. While the organization wanted to enable remote cloud and mobile access and improve scalability, it also needed to retain its data on-premises during the transition, requiring a solution that could bridge its legacy desktop environment with modern web and mobile experiences.
Challenges:
As the client worked to modernize its practice management platform, there were several operational and technical challenges, including the following:
- Desktop-only environment with limited remote access restricted how doctors and patients could interact with the system
- Manual license and sub-product management created operational inefficiencies, with no centralized system in place
- Doctors could not track daily operations or schedules on the go
- Patients lacked user- and mobile-friendly direct access to their medical data or payment options
- Legacy application faced performance bottlenecks and scalability issues, limiting future growth
- Data accessibility was restricted, as the client needed to retain data on-premises rather than migrate it to a web-based solution
Solution:
FlairsTech partnered with the client to modernize the practice management ecosystem while maintaining existing on-premises data infrastructure. FlairsTech did the following:
- Built a Rails-based licensing server for automated, centralized license and sub-product management
- Developed a NestJS backend exposing three APIs, securely accessing on-premises data via SSH with rotating password generation, paving the way for cloud readiness without a full data migration
- Delivered native mobile apps (iOS & Android) empowering doctors to remotely track and update schedules and patient information
- Built a React-based patient portal providing user-friendly access to medical records and integrated payment functionality
- Addressed desktop-app performance bottlenecks and boosted response times and system stability
- Implemented a comprehensive CI/CD pipeline across all servers and front-end solutions, for both staging and production
- Planned a scalability roadmap for a seamless future migration from desktop-based to fully web-based operations
Impact:
The modernization initiative delivered measurable improvements in remote accessibility, operational efficiency, application performance, and user engagement, including the following:
- 100% increase in remote access; doctors and patients can now engage with the system from anywhere
- 80% lift in license-management efficiency through automated licensing and sub-product management
- 90% faster API response times through streamlined queries and resource handling
- 60% rise in doctor productivity through real-time mobile access to schedules and records
- 80% growth in patient engagement via self-service portal access to data and payments
- 100% CI/CD pipeline coverage across all servers, with a clear, modular pathway to full cloud migration
